In this example,  a transformer is going to be added to pole 5-193.  Then, a secondary pole and a meter will be added to the plant.

First, the graphical elements will be added to the map using a simple point-and-click method. Users do not have to actually draw anything. Plant feature symbols are selected from tiled menus like the one below.

These menus allow the user to add the transformer, secondary pole, meter, and wire in a matter of seconds.

Now that the map graphics are in place, the user can specify which construction units will be used in the job. This is done from within the AutoCAD session using SQL*CAD's intuitive user forms.  The construction units for each pole, underground station, or conductor are selected from categorized lists.

After the construction unit information has been entered, SQL*CAD can automatically put staking information right on the map:

SQL*CAD also has simple user forms for adding other job costs - such as crew size and direct costs. The one shown below allows equipment usage to be added to the cost estimate.

Clicking a single button will then cause the job cost to be computed.  SQL*CAD will then produce printed cost estimates, staking sheets, and material pick lists. A work order estimate for a job like this, including mapping, will take a trained user 4 to 5 minutes.
